I see that someone liked my last post. Thank you! This is such a new thing, never even read a blog until a few weeks ago, try to live the uncluttered life, one might say. So thank you for reading and liking. If you have a blog, I’d like to read it. If you don’t have one, you and I may have been the last two and I’ve caved in!
But I think I’ll almost enjoy writing one, because I have my book for inspiration. The Lady of Shallot, Mississippi, Crystal Bell, is just about ready to come out on Amazon Kindle as THE PAINTED LADY OF SHALLOT.
If I had thought writing a blog would be challenging, let me put forth this observation: how do a million (at least) writers manage to self publish? Writing the book is the easy part (actually, it was amazing to be able to help a character build herself from the feet up). Getting it ready for kindle was another story. But once it was uploaded it seemed like “oh, so that is how you do it.” You forget how many times the Table of Contents had to be redone. How many chapter ends didn’t have page breaks inserted. How many “widows and orphans” had to be taken care of. My hat is off to all who have done it. If you’ve ever wondered if traditional publishers/editors earn their cut, I’m guessing they do.
So here is a little hint. If you are thinking of self-publishing on kindle or smashwords, etc., go on their site and get all information before you get too far along.
I actually had started writing LADY a few years ago, and finished another one meanwhile, while continuing to read and edit her, I’d say at least a dozen times. This is an example of editing: kindle spellcheck only found some unusual names and a couple of words that I had morphed, such as “departeds” to question me about.
So be thinking about my painted lady, Crystal.
Thanks!
